Physical Health Is One Of The Pillars of Happiness
In order to be really happy, foremost, we must be healthy. We must constantly
do our best to maintain our good health and keep fit with sufficient and regular
physical activities (such as proper exercise) and especially watch what we eat (proper diet).
While working very hard day and night 7 days a week in order to earn as much
money as possible so that they can find happiness, many people neglected
to take good care of their body. With much sweat, tears and blood, eventually
many will end up making a lot of money and even become very rich.
But, because they have ignored the need to take good care of their body,
soon they will have all sorts of health problems and sickness.
Eventually, they will end up using all their hard-earn money to pay for their
medical fees and soon ended up broke or deeply in debt.
Our physical body is just like our car. In order for the car to always function
without problem and to be in tip top condition and safe, we must regularly maintain
and service it. If we take very good care of our car, it will serve us faithfully
and we can make the best of it to satisfy our transportation needs at work, in business
and especially life in general.
On the other hand, if we neglect to take good care of our car, it will constantly
break down and greatly interrupt our daily business and activities.
Can you imagine the kind of inconveniences and losses you will have
to incur if your car suddenly break down while you are delivering an important
batch of goods to your customer or you are on your way to a very crucial
meeting? And how would you like to face the frustrations and disappointments
on the part of your family members when the car breaks down while on the
way to Grandma Sthephanie's house for the Thanksgiving?
Regardless of what model or make of car you drive, it will eventually
break down if you do not maintain it properly and regularly.
Apart from regular servicing, what kind of oil and lubricant you use on your
car will also affect its overall performance, reliability and durability.
Better Late Than Never
Yes, start now! Even if you have not been taking good care of your physical body
all these years, it is still not too late to start doing something positive
constructive about it now. Remember: "prevention is better than cure."
Don't wait until your body "break down" in order to start taking good care of it.
It might already be too late.
Starting this moment, be determined to take good care of your body.
Set up a plan to regularly exercise. You can start slowly
(once a week, jog for 30 minutes around your neighbourhood you live),
and then gradually build up as your fitness
increases (5 days a week, swim 2 hours at the public swimming pool near your office).
You can choose activities that your whole family can go together. For example,
jogging, walking, swimming, taijiquan (taichichuan), and yoga,
are some examples of healthy activities that you could bring your spouse and children
along.
Or you might prefer to spend time exercising with your friends or colleagues.
Maybe you could go to the gym together to workout, or you could have regular games
of badminton or tennies. Pilates and aerobics are also good.
Martial arts is also a very good form of exercise. On top of keeping you fit
and build up your stamina, a martial-art also equipt you with the additional
benefit of the ability for self-defence. Apart from protecting yourself, you
could also protect your loved ones and the people around you. The self-discipline
and self-control inculcated over a long period of training in martial-arts
will also greatly increase your self-confidence.
For those who are really determined to keep fit (and could afford it),
you should seriously consider joining a health club, fitness centre or gymnasium.
Having a regular and proper place to exercise will make it so much easier for
you to persist. On top of it all, if you have paid quite a sum of money to
become a member, you would definitely make the best of the facilities.
Having a personal (fitness) trainer is also a great idea as he could help, guide,
assist, correct and motivate you along your quest for fitness and good health.
Remember: "A little exercise every day or week, is better than none at all!!!"
By the way, on top of proper, sufficient and regular exercise,
at the same time you must also watch what you eat. Feed yourself with
only healthy and nutritional food and in the proper portion.
Variety and balance are the key words to good diet.
So, remember, if you want your "car" to be in tip-top condition and
to perform to its maximum capacity and ability,
you must maintain it well and service it regularly.
For it to function reliably and smoothly,
and to bring you to wherever you want to go,
drive your "car" properly,
and fill it with the best oil and gas you could.
All of us only have one physical body. We must take very good care of it so that
it can serve us and help us achieve our goals in life.
With a good and healthy physical body, we can go wherever we want in life
or how far we want to go in our life journey. Let us love, protect and take
good care of our body and all its "spare parts". And remember to feed it only
the best possible "fuel" and "lubricant". Nothing less.
Exercise well. Eat well. Be well on your life journey,
and quest for happiness.
Godspeed.
